Amy Shaw

Life Engagement Director

I don’t originally come from the Senior Living industry, my professional background is in Hospitality and the Event industry, and it is my passion. It started very organically for me. In college my major was Interior Design. I also had a second major of Food and Nutrition. When The Tachi Palace Hotel & Casino opened their hotel and casino expansion in October of 2005, a VIP Host department was added and the first major formal event for our property VIP guests was the New Year 2005/2006 Event.

This is where my Event career began. From that time forward, I was doing 1-2 events a month for 350+ guests. In 2013 I planned a yearlong corporate 30th Anniversary event culminating with a Gala for 800 guests. The guests list included dignitaries from many other California Tribal Councils, as well as a former Lt. Governor Cruz Bustamante and the CA Rep, Andy Vidak.

I was thrilled to be able to combine my loves of Design and Food into one exciting career. Not only did I plan the events, I designed and installed them as well. In April of 2016 I was hired at our local full-service Marriott, Visalia Marriott At The Convention Center, where I was the Catering Sales Manager and handled multiple accounts. Working with clients to help them realize their event dreams is what makes this such a rewarding career.

In 2011 is when I received my Certified Professional in Catering and Events, CPCE, through the industry organization NACE; National Association for Catering and Events.

My most recent honor was I was asked to apply for an internship opportunity with Mr. David Tutera to work with him at his Bridal Show in Houston Texas. I did in fact accept the volunteer position and received a letter of reference from Mr. Tutera.

I love the event industry and I can’t imagine anything more rewarding than making people happy. That is what I view my role as. I am thrilled to be a part of Senior living community. Now I have the opportunity to apply my skills in event planning to bring fun and fulfillment to a very important segment of society. There is nothing more rewarding than pleasing the residents and assisting them with enjoying the life that they have chosen with us.
