Quail Park at Shannon Ranch
Quail Park at Shannon Ranch’s Memory Care program is a haven lovingly designed to meet the special needs of people with Alzheimer’s and other related dementias. Alzheimer’s is a general term for memory loss; it accounts for 50-80% of dementia cases. Alzheimer’s progresses and the symptoms gradually worsen over the years. Our Memory Care program specifically caters to these patients with an open and secure environment, offering a sense of security for our residents, while encouraging them to remain independent. Our program encourages a higher quality of life with increased independence and socialization. Our team is committed to helping those with memory loss maintain their independence and dignity for as long as possible, keeping them happy and engaged, while giving residents’ families peace of mind about the care their loved one is receiving. We understand that each resident has individual needs to be met and we tailor our care through the Memory Care program to address those needs.
The Tribute Program at Quail Park is purposefully designed to address the unique needs of persons living with Alzheimer’s and dementia. Our Memory Care program seeks to honor the distinctive life story of each resident, paying tribute to previous accomplishments and significant life events, while focusing on the person’s remaining strengths and nurturing their present relationships. Each of our caregivers make it a point to know the person’s life story. We understand and honor the personal preferences of each resident in their activities, daily routines, comfort, food, enjoyment, and clothing, which helps minimize stress and frustration. We listen with our eyes, minds, hearts, and our ears, to be able to understand the resident and respond accordingly. We value the trust given us by the resident and their family. We partner with them, the physicians, and other healthcare providers to achieve the highest quality of life possible for the resident.

Caring too much can hurt. When caregivers focus on those in the Memory Care program without practicing self-care, destructive behaviors can surface. Apathy, isolation, bottled up emotions, and substance abuse head a long list of symptoms associated with the secondary traumatic stress disorder now labeled Compassion Fatigue. Learning to recognize and manage the symptoms of Compassion Fatigue is the first step towards healing, which can lead to positive change, personal transformation, and a new resiliency. When you or a loved one is diagnosed with a progressive disease like Alzheimer’s or dementia, you face several serious considerations, and many of those considerations need to be made quickly before the disease has a chance to progress. In addition to decisions about Memory Care, doctors, medical treatments, and therapies, this is the time to make some legal decisions to plan for the future. The sooner you create an estate plan, the greater the likelihood that the patient will be able to express his or her full wishes, ensuring that the estate plan is exactly what he or she would want. These are some tips and guidelines to help you through this process. There are three important factors to consider. First, you need to plan for health care, including long-term care needs. The second thing to plan is the oversight of finances and property. The last thing to take care of is choosing someone to make decisions on behalf of the individual. These items should be decided upon by the individual, the spouse, any adult children, and the attorney for the individual. Before making these decisions, determine the individual has legal capacity for making decisions.
